Benzocaine

Benzocaine is the topical anesthetic in Orajel and sunburn sprays. It is just the ethyl ester of 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Two cuts: undo the ester to get back PABA + ethanol, then undo the aromatic amine by reducing it back to the nitro compound. The nitro arene is the cheap starting material.
